FEELING GOOD IN YOUR OWN SKIN AS TOLD BY A PREVIOUS ACNE SUFFERER

Until I was around 18/19, I hated leaving the house bare faced.

As I used to suffer with acne, I never thought I would ever feel fully comfortable in my own skin, without caking it in layers of makeup. Yup, I used to go out wearing the full sha-bang, even if I was only popping to the supermarket. I used to feel so self concious that people would stare if I had a really bad breakout that day (and my acne was only mild!)
There came a time in my life when I sat down and thought there’s nobody out there that gives a damn about what I look like with no makeup. Nobody, except myself.

Now, I go everywhere without wearing makeup. Uni, shopping, out for meals – you name it. It all just clicked.

Albeit, I do think that my skin looks so much better than it did a few years ago and that’s because I now have a daily skincare routine that I do try to stick to at least.

Here are a few of my favourite products to use:fullsizerender

Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanse and Polish

Yes, I know I rave about this product in almost every single skincare blogpost, but it’s because it is so good! I lather up the cleanser and moisturise it into my skin for around two minutes and then rinse it off with a boiling hot flannel. Perfect for opening up the pores! It also makes my skin feel so soft which is a bonus.

Nivea Skin Night Cream

I use this every night before going to bed and it makes my skin feel so much softer and rejuvenated when I wake up the next morning. It really is the most moisturising drugstore creams out there, and I’ve been using it for over a year now and it just does the trick every time. Nivea is a great brand for skincare and one of my favourites.

Differin Gel

Now I know in the USA you can buy this product in many stores, but over here in the UK this is one of the skincare products I have to get from the doctors. When my acne was quite bad I used this all the time, it is amazing at drying up spots quickly and getting rid of them in literally a day. As my skin is somewhat clear at the moment I rarely have to use this anymore, but when I do – it’s a lifesaver!

Bioderma Micellar Water

This product is my all time FAVOURITE and no, I am not exaggerating. I am obsessed with this product and stock up everytime I am in France purely because it is the best makeup remover I have ever tried. I do cleanse and polish on a nightly basis to remove my makeup but if I am feeling tired and just want to remove it properly I will use this, and it works just as well. I also use this every morning just to perk my skin up before morning moisturiser, and it is well loved in my skincare. A lot of other people rave about this product too, so it isn’t just me! It is available in the UK but is much more expensive and rare to find.

What’s your favourite skincare product to use? I’m always on the look out for more products to use so post your suggestions down below!

  1. Hey Megan, you look stunning without makeup 😍 I too struggled with going makeup free after having major breakouts over the past years. After visiting a dermatologist, my acne is still present but it’s in control making it easier to go natural. I like how you said no one cares about you not wearing makeup but you…that’s so true. We are our biggest critics. Inspiring post, thanks for sharing!
